Milam Glacier & Nanda Devi East Base Camp Trek

Day 0 : Departure from U.K

Day 01: Delhi - Kathgodam (300 kms by train)

Take an AC Train for Kathgodam from Old Delhi railway station at 2245 hrs and reach Kathgodam early next morning at 0600 hrs. Overnight journey.

Day 02 : Kathgodam - Almora - Munsyari (2290 mts/7512 ft) 300 kms/8-9 hrs

Upon arrival at Kathgodam drive to Munsyari via Almora. On arrival check in to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 03 : Munsyari - Lilam (1850 m/6068 ft) (14 kms/ 5-6 hrs)

The day starts with a drive of 10 kms to the village of Selapani which has a couple of shops. Here you will see our ponies and the trekking team. The trail from Selapani descends to the village of Darkot. You can see local inhabitants of the village going to and fro from Munsyari. From Darkot the trail descends further to the Gori Ganga and continues along the river to the village of Jimigad. The trail continues gradually for a couple of kilometers and finally ascends to reach Lilam. Lilam is a small hub with a few shops and hotels. Overnight in the tents.

Day 04 : Lilam - Bugdiar (2500 mts/8200 ft) (12 kms/5-6 hrs)

After reporting at the ITBP (Border Police) check post we go past the post, gradually to reach Rupshya bagar. The trail is really full of enthusiasm and thrill as it keeps everyone guessing about the next phase. The trail passes through amazing landscape, beautiful forest and gorges with Gori Ganga gushing in the valley. The trail continues further to the confluence of Gori Ganga and Ralam river from Ralam Glacier. The trail further continues to Rargadi the series of shacks serving as hotels for the travelers. From here a steep ascent followed by gradual trail brings you to Sunni. The trail now winds up to the settlement at Bugdiar. The commencement of Bugdiar is marked with the post of ITBP. After reporting continue further to witness another confluence of Gori Ganga and Poting river from Hiramani glacier. Cross over the Poting river and go past the shops. A small descend bring us to the campsite by the river Gori Ganga. Overnight in the tents.

Day 05 : Bugdiar- Martoli (3430 mts/11250 ft) (14 kms/5-6 hrs)

The trail from Bugdiar continues along the true right of the valley to Nahar Devi. The views here are spectacular as the trail passes through rock formations and river Gori Ganga gushing alongside. From here its still a gradual ascend to reach Mapang. The trail continues to ascend gradually to Railkot. We report at ITBP and continue to trek further to Martoli. From Railkot its initially a steep climb to the ridge later it's a gradual climb to the village of Martoli. Overnight in the tents.

Day 06 : Martoli - Milam (3450 m/11316 ft) (11kms/5-6 hrs)

The trail from Martoli descends steeply to the bridge over Lwan gad. Crossing over the bridge is followed by a steep climb which soon flattens to continue to another bridge on Goriganga. Crossing over the bridge brings you to the true left of the valley. From here a trail climbs steeply to the village of Burfu. Another trail continues towards Milam. After this the trail is gradual and takes you to the village of Belju, overlooking Ganghar and Pachu valley on the opposite end. The view of Nanda Devi and Nanda Devi east peaks is amazing from here. The valley is wide and open as you can see Milam village and the Hardeol peak towering high in front of you. Trekking further you will see the confluence of Gori Ganga and river from Utha Dhura. The trail continues to a bridge and a climb brings you to the village of Milam. There is check post of ITBP where we will report and then continue further to the abandoned village of Milam, Overnight in the tents.

Day 07 : Milam - Milam Glacier - Milam (6 kms /3-4 hrs)

Make an early start towards the Milam Glacier. The trail goes past through the deserted houses of Milam Village. Initially the trail is well marked but as you approach the glacier it gets converted into moraine and boulders. On arrival explore the glacier; one can view the magnificent peaks of Rishi Parvat (6692 M), Hardeol (7151 M) and Trishuli I (7074 M). Later trek back to Milam village. Afternoon relax and admire the historic settlements at Milam, which was a great centre and of when there was trade between India and Tibet. Overnight in the tents.

Day 08 : Milam - Martoli

The trek from Milam to Martoli village is fun walk, passing through the village of Belju and Burfu overlooking the deserted village of Mapa on the opposite end of the river. Later at the end of day it's a steep ascend from Lwan gad to reach the village of Martoli. The village of Martoli is abandoned, but a traditional temple of Mother Nanda Devi and few old houses serve as hotels and lodges to the travelers makes it somewhat happening. Overnight in the tents.

Day 09 : Martoli - Lwani (13 kms/5-6 hrs)

The trek starts on the true right of the valley with the excellent views of Nanda Devi East and Nanda Devi dominating the horizon. The trail goes past beautiful meadows with a descend to side stream followed by a ascend to the deserted settlement at Lwan. Overnight in the tents.

Day 10 : Lwani - Nanda Devi East Base Camp (4150 m/13612 ft) (13kms/5-6 hrs

The trek to the Nanda Devi East Base is a technical and cautious stepping is required. The terrain is beautiful and scenery is brilliant as the trail passes through a series of moraine fields and famous meadows of Sartol Kharak (3650 M) and Naspanpatti (3850 M).Overnight in the tents.

Day 11: Nanda Devi East Base Camp - Nanda Devi East (3 kms one side/3-4 hrs)

In the morning we will set out to an exploratory towards Nanda Devi east. Explore the terrain and return back to the base camp. Overnight in the tents.

Day 12 : Nanda Devi East Base Camp - Martoli (3430 m/11250 ft) (14 kms/5-6 hrs)

This day an early start is mandatory. The trek to the village of Martoli is a steady descend but is one should be vigilant throughout the hike. Arrive Martoli and overnight in the tents.

Day 13 : Martoli - Bugdiar (2500 m/8200 ft) (13 kms/4-5 hrs)

The long day walk requires another early start as you past through Railkot, Mapang and Nahar Devi to reach Bugdiar. Overnight in the tents.

Day 14 : Bugdiar - Lilam (12 kms/4 hrs)

The day's trek passing through Sunni, Rargadi and Rupshya Bagar brings you to the village of Lilam. Overnight in the tents.

Day 15 : Lilam - Munsyari (2290 m/7512 ft)

The last day of trek to Selapani village takes about 3 hours. From here board a traditional mountain jeep to reach Munsyari. On arrival check into the hotel/guest house. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 16 : Munsyari - Kathgodam

Early in morning drive to Kathgodam to catch Ranikhet Express for Delhi at 2040 hrs. overnight journey.

Day 17 : Arrive Delhi

Arrive at Delhi by morning.

Milam Glacier & Nanda Devi East Base Camp Trek
