FAQ — Rishikesh Yoga Retreat

What is the best time to visit Rishikesh for a yoga retreat?
The best time to visit Rishikesh is from September to November and February to May when the weather is pleasant and ideal for outdoor yoga sessions. The temperatures range from 15°C to 30°C. Avoid visiting during the monsoon season (July–August) when heavy rains can cause flooding. Winter months (December–January) are cool but perfect for a cosy ashram experience.
Do I need prior yoga experience to join this retreat?
Not at all! This retreat welcomes practitioners of all levels — from complete beginners to advanced yogis. Our experienced instructors adapt each session to accommodate different skill levels. Whether you've never done yoga before or you're looking to deepen your existing practice, you'll find this retreat perfectly suited to your needs.
What style of yoga is taught during the retreat?
The retreat includes a variety of yoga styles: Hatha Yoga (traditional postures and alignment), Vinyasa Flow (dynamic movement sequences), Yin Yoga (gentle, restorative holds), Yoga Nidra (guided deep relaxation), and Pranayama (breathing techniques). You'll also learn yoga philosophy, chanting, and meditation practices.
What type of accommodation is provided?
We offer two accommodation options: Traditional Ashram Stay — clean, simple rooms with attached bathrooms in an authentic ashram setting on the Ganges banks. Boutique Riverside Stay — upgraded rooms with modern amenities, river views, and enhanced comfort. Both options include all meals and full retreat access. Upgrades are available upon request.
Is the food vegetarian? Can you accommodate dietary requirements?
Yes, all meals are 100% vegetarian Sattvic cuisine — the traditional yogic diet designed to promote clarity, calmness, and vitality. Meals are prepared with fresh, organic, locally sourced ingredients. We can accommodate vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary requirements with advance notice. No alcohol, caffeine, or non-vegetarian food is served during the retreat.
How do I get to Rishikesh from the UK?
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (approx. 35 km from Rishikesh). You can fly from London to Delhi (direct flights available), then take a connecting flight to Dehradun (1 hour) or a scenic drive (5-6 hours). Alternatively, you can take a train from Delhi to Haridwar (4-5 hours) and then a short drive to Rishikesh. We provide airport/station transfers as part of the package.
Is white water rafting safe? Can beginners participate?
Yes, white water rafting in Rishikesh is very safe and suitable for beginners. All rafting trips are conducted by certified, experienced guides with proper safety equipment (life jackets, helmets). The 16 km stretch includes Grade III & IV rapids, which are exciting but manageable for first-timers. Participants must be able to swim. Minimum age is 14 years.
What should I pack for the yoga retreat?
We recommend packing: comfortable yoga/activewear, a light shawl or wrap (for meditation and temple visits), sunscreen & sunglasses, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, comfortable walking shoes (for the temple trek), flip-flops/sandals, a journal for reflections, and any personal meditation items. Yoga mats and props are provided at the ashram. Modest clothing is recommended for temple visits.
